This semester, the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) has partnered with the Chair for Architecture of Territory (Prof Topalovic) to coorganize the Sessions on Territory lecture series under the theme "Architecture in the Civil Service", engaging students and practitioners alike in dynamic, interactive discussions. The series has attracted significant attention, with lively debates that include input from experts, practitioners, and students. Through the Design in Dialogue (DiD) Lab at ONA, the series fosters collaborative learning, offering a platform for students to engage directly with the complexities of architecture within and beyond state institutions.
At the heart of the sessions lies a focus on how architecture can advance the public good—encompassing public space, ownership, and the broader public sphere. Halfway through the series, the discussions have touched on critical themes, including the changing role of the state in architecture, governance approaches, and the historical role of state planners. These sessions ground FCL’s research in real-world applications, making it a key part of ETH Zurich’s teaching landscape. This visibility enriches the student experience and encourages practical discussions on the future of architecture in the public sector.
As we continue, we look forward to further enriching these conversations and contributing to the evolving dialogue on architecture's role in society.
